A revolutionary new tractor mounted chain trencher of advanced design is having wide appeal to the farming fraternity with land drainage problems.

Initially designed for sportsfield drainage where precise working is demanded, the Shelton company is now making an agricultural version available as a result of the great interest shown in the equipment at this year's LAMMA show.
Capable of digging to a metre deep, trench width can be varied enabling 60, 80, 100, 125 and 150mm diameter land drainage pipes to be installed.

The new Shelton chain trencher is attached to the 3 point linkage of a tractor of 45hp plus. The tractor must be fitted with creep gears or hydrostatic drive capable of a forward speed of around 300 metres per hour at 540 rpm pto speed.

Shelton Sportsturf Drainage Solutions are renowned for fine engineering; they have won four Royal Agricultural Society of England Silver Medals for the design and field performance of equipment they manufacture.

This new chain trencher upholds this tradition of superior design – the laser-profiled components are manufactured to a tolerance of 0.05mm and each trencher goes through a rigorous testing procedure prior to despatch. The Shelton chain trencher uses a short conveyor to discharge the soil on the right hand side of the trench. A longer conveyor may be fitted to carry the arisings into a trailer or dump truck running alongside if required.

For accurate falls the digging boom can be laser controlled either manually or automatically.

This machine is now available for hire with or without an operator.

New Lightening Drain

The intensive use of many fine-grass sports facilities the year round calls for exceptionally good drainage. To achieve this the excess soil water has to be conveyed from the playing area by means of conventional land drainage pipes. This is referred to as the primary system.

Superimposed over this network of pipes is a secondary system, the aim of which is to move excess water between the pipes to them quickly.Gravel filled bands or narrow gravel-filled trenches usually form the secondary system.

But there are many occasions where this in not fast enough, hence the introduction of Shelton Lightening – Drain.

25mm diameter slotted land drainage pipes are installed in trenches approximately 32mm wide at a depth of around 300mm.These are spaced 400mm to 2000mm apart and backfilled with Lytag or gravel almost to the surface.

The small-bore pipes are placed in the narrow trenches by the Shelton System 25 trencher with coupled backfilling hopper in a one-pass operation. The excavated soil is elevated into a trailer running alongside leaving an exceptionally clean surface finish.
