Modern Sportsturf trenching machines now have very high daily outputs, but backfilling these trenches has always been a slow operation.
The Shelton Fast-Flow Gravel Hoppers speed up the backfilling process considerably with reduced labour input.
3 Tonne Fast Flow Gravel Hopper
Built mainly from stainless steel, this trailed model can be used comfortably with a compact tractor.
The gravel flows through a smaller secondary hopper that runs in the trench underneath the main hopper. This secondary hopper is interchangeable for different trench widths and has a good degree of lateral movement, minimising the risk of damage to the trench sides.
Gravel shut-off is hydraulically controlled for ease of operation. Low ground pressure tyres ensure minimal damage to fine turf. Depth of fill is fully adjustable.
6 Tonne Fast Flow Gravel & Sand Hopper
This high output model is aimed at the contractor, and is capable of backfilling trenches with gravel and also topping off trenches with free flowing sand and root-zones.
Gravel is moved forward via a hydraulically driven conveyor belt into a secondary hopper that runs in the trench. This secondary hopper is interchangeable for different trench widths and has a good degree of lateral movement, minimising the risk of damage to the trench sides.
To convert from gravel to sand, the secondary hopper is removed, and replaced with a sand hopper, which takes approximately 5 minutes with no tools needed. The sand hopper rakes the sand into the trench and compacts it twice to ensure accurate back-filling at forward speeds of 5-6 mph.
The 6 tonne hopper allows one man to easily keep up with the trenching operation, back-filling both gravel and sand.
Wide low ground pressure tyres ensure mimimal damage to fine turf. Full road lighting and brakes are standard fitment.
Optional extras include a CCTV camera fitted to the front of the machine to allow the operator to view the machines secondary hopper without turning around.
A side elevator can be fitted instead of the forward conveyor to convert the 6 tonne into a Gravel Cart.
